Fly into Rome (FCO) and take a connection to Lamezia (SUF). We will provide bussing from hotels to our wedding events and back and will keep you posted on the best method of transportation from the airport to the hotel(s).
Our venue is Casino Lenza located in the city of Lamezia.
Lamezia is in the province (county) of Catanzaro (CZ), and in the region (state) of Calabria.
Italy has 1 time zone and is 6 hours ahead of NY.
Have an active passport that doesn't expire within 6 months of June 27, 2025.
When to buy plane tickets: We recommend booking your flight anytime between now and March. Some travel pros claim 2-3 months is the sweet spot to book a European flight in advance, others claim 6 months, therefore we suggest setting up a price alert for flights.
What days to fly: Flying in and out on a Tuesday-Thursday is generally cheaper than weekend flights.
Recommended Airlines: ITA airways has the most flights, partners with a variety of airlines, and have the best prices.
You can book your flight to Rome separate from your flight to Lamezia, but it will require a slightly longer layover, especially during summer with crowds and if you are bringing a checked bag.
All wedding events will be in Calabria, Italy. There are no direct flights from the U.S. to Sant'Eufemia Lamezia Airport (SUF).
The most efficient route is: USA airport → FCO → SUF.
Flight Options:
Fly from your U.S. airport to either Rome (FCO) or Milan (MXP).
Connect to Lamezia (SUF):
FCO → SUF = 1 hour
MXP → SUF = 1.75 hours
Avoid booking flights that require a transfer through multiple Milan airports (e.g., JFK to MXP to LIN to SUF).
Location: The venue is just a 6-minute drive from SUF, and recommended hotels where we set up room blocks are within a 30-minute drive.
Recommended Arrival: We suggest taking a 4/5pm evening flight out of the USA on (or before) June 25 as they arrive early morning in Rome the following day, getting you to Calabria by the early afternoon, in time to check into your hotel or BNB and get ready to join us for our welcome dinner that evening.
If you are opting to drive at any point in your trip, you will need an International Driving Permit which you can obtain at your nearest AAA office (if the police pull you over at any point you will need to present this).
INTERNATIONAL DRIVING PERMIT:
1) Download and fill out an application
2) Have two original passport pictures ready.(We recommend getting these done at your local post-office, Walgreens, or CVS. SOME AAA locations will take photos for you, but not all).
3) Have a valid U.S. driver's license.
4) Visit your local AAA location with the above documentation and pay $20 USD permit fee and you're ready to go!
TRANSMISSION:
Be attentive when booking a car, you should know "manual transmission" (stick-shift) is the typical selection in most of Europe. If you do not already know how to drive stick, this is NOT the time or place to learn as there are many hills in Calabria, so be sure to select "automatic transmission".
DISTANCE:
Rome is about a 5-8 hour drive (depending on your route) to Lamezia Calabria.
Naples is about a 4-5 hour drive to Lamezia.
Messina, Sicily is about a 2 hour drive to Lamezia, including the 25 minute car ferry.
Be attentive: there is typically more traffic in the summer.
We don't recommend taking the train as it can be very complicated for foreigners and it can take upwards of 8 hours to get from Rome to Lamezia with having to transfer stations at least 1 time.
If you really prefer a train, we recommend using Rome2Rio website to help you with any trains or ferry rides and we recommend arriving either at Lamezia Terme Train Station or Amantea Station.
Please consult Ferry Hopper or Rome2Rio for information about traveling by ferry via car or foot from Villa San Giovanni (RC), Calabria to Messina (ME), Sicily.
